The 2nd Annual Nonprofit Summit is now over and we couldn’t be more pleased with the turnout for and quality of the event. Nearly 250 nonprofit board members, staff and volunteers from around the state came together in an effort to learn from one another and from the slate of experts on hand. The day began with a keynote from Melanie Lockwood Herman, Executive Director of the Nonprofit Risk Management Center who asked “Are You Ready for the Zombie Apocalypse?” and educated the audience on the top 10 risks facing nonprofits. Participants were then able to attend breakout sessions with topics including: board diversity, conflict management, social media, rural nonprofit resources & strategies, volunteer recruitment and understanding generational differences. The day ended with a panel discussion of funders that provided the audience tips and advice on writing effective grant applications, building funder relationships and avoiding common mistakes made by grantees. Thank you to all of our speakers who did such an amazing job and a special thanks to the Nonprofit Summit Planning Committee members; Himar Hernandez (ISU Extension and Outreach), Courtney De Ronde (TDT CPA’s & Advisors), Blaire Siems (United Way of Wapello County), Chuck Kiple (Wapello County Foundation), Amy Nossaman (Legacy Foundation) and Kelly Genners (Legacy Foundation) who put together such a phenomenal event.
